Caretaker-Guest Speaker at your next cancer focused event.
My experience as a caretaker is one I’ll never forget. Between all of the tears, fears and humbling moments you could wish you could forget, there remain hidden a few gems which inevitably make you smile.
As I begin my own healing process… I’ve taken a step back to examine my families journey and my own decision to share the experience with you in live time. Since launching the blog in December, just when things were getting really rough, this site has had over 5,000 hits. It boggled my mind in the beginning. I knew how much his presence had influence in peoples lives, but the magnitude took me by suprise. It also made me realize that people were interested and listening, and that it was growing beyond just his or my own personal network.
Through this reflection, I’ve come to believe that his struggle and his willingness to commit his still breathing body to a research study was one of the most heroic things I’ve ever experienced in life. I’m honored to have been a part of it, and would fail him completely if I did not take up his fight where he left off.
Volunteering to tell the story of the fighting haddock, from my own perspective, is the best way I know how to encourage others to find the hope, strength and perserverance which I found during my own journey.
Beyond the blog… In honor of his life… We still fight.
